Phil Foster, Myron Moore, Lawrence Churchill, Lin Wright and president Les Walker got together in July of 1990 and decided to form an R/C flying club. They started with seven members. Our current senior member, Harry Fish, joined in March of 1991, followed by Norm Moulton in Jan. 1992, Tom Kannally, Dick Lahaye, Orin Knowles, Art Aube, and Bill Noble who joined in Apr. 1993. At no time has the club had more than 20 members. Early meetings were held at the home of Phil Foster, a past president. Currently meetings, during inclement weather, are being held at the home of Bill Noble. Early flying was done across the street from Lawrence's home on Rte 2 in New Sharron. After several attempts to move to another site, an agreement was made with Mr. Young to fly off his air field in West Farmington. Drainage, pit area, parking area, sanitary facilities (yes, there is a port-o-potty) and mowing were some of the problems facing the volunteers. A variety of activities have been attempted by club members including New Year's Day flying, glider flying, float flying and fun-fly competitions. Civic exposure has included Fourth of July demonstrations, Jay DARE Day, Madison Spring Fest, Mt. Blue Spring Show, Carrabassett Valley Airport Fly-In and newspaper articles. Open house day, usually held on the Fourth of July, includes such activities as static displays, demonstrations, buddy-box flying for new flyers and the raffling of a plane. Today the club is comprised of close to 40 members. We become more and more active each year. Our members are involved in many aspects of modeling and there is always someone willing to fly!
