A Simple Portable
Frequency Board
Our club uses 4 or more different
flying fields. We have our "home field" with a permanent frequency board
but, because we are so geographically spread out we have events at
different fields and we also hold several float flies each year. This creates
a problem for coordinating frequencies. To solve this problem we have devised
a simple frequency board that travels with us to different fields. The
idea is very simple and can be made up quickly and easily. We have constructed
an easel that is made up of a framed piece of white masonite backed wall
covering (commonly used for bathroom walls and around bathtubs and available
at most lumber yards). A hinge on the top of the frame holds a leg that
folds out to rest the thing upright (like an easel). A pen (the type used
for "wipe boards" and available at any office supply) hangs from a string
and a rag is left with the board. When a member get ready to fly, they
write the frequency number on the board with their name. When they are
done, they wipe the number off the board. A quick check of the board tells
you whether your frequency is available and if not, who is using it.
This is not a fancy system
but when you fly at different fields and with different people it is a
simple, effective method for keeping you and your planes a little safer.
